Instagram Launches "Type" Mode for Stories

Updated: Oct 15, 2018

Announced via blog post, Instagram introduced “type” mode which lets you post your thoughts on your story without having to capture any footage.

“Type” mode comes with fun fonts, colored backgrounds, and stickers. You can also add the new fonts and stickers to your footage, so you can combine the best of both modes.

It is also really easy to use. Simply log onto your Instagram account, open the camera, and locate the “type” option under the record button.

Instagram let users know that stories created with “type” mode are still only available to view for 24 hours before it disappears from your profile forever.

I know. What’s the point? “Type” mode sounds fun and all, but do we really need it? I’ll admit, I’m a biased Snapchatter and no other app can replace the spot in my heart reserved for Snapchat. You just never forget your first, right? And besides, we were already taking random pics and adding unrelated text messages to send to our friends through Snapchat.

But Instagram makes the text message process easier by removing that unnecessary step of having to take footage before typing your thoughts and sending them to friends. So kudos to Instagram for saving me two seconds. It’s less complicated and perhaps less authentic, but try it out for yourself and discover if “type” mode is right for you.

The Instagram update with “type” mode is now available to download, and Instagram is free from the Apple App store and the Google Play Store.
